JUBA, 24 October 2009 (Gurtong) – The former Gurtong newsman was elected alongside six other bishops on Saturday during elections held at All Saints Cathedral in Juba.

The chairman of the Electoral College of the Episcopal Church of Sudan Majok Mading Majok presided over the exercise.

Deng garnered 53 votes against his closest rival, Martin Maker’s 22.

“In my capacity as the electoral chairman of the Episcopal Church of Sudan in this day of 24th October 2009, I declare Bishop Moses Deng Bol the elected Bishop of Wau Diocese”, declared Majok.

Deng thanked the church delegates for showing confidence in him and commended the peaceful conduct of the elections.

“I thank everybody who contributed to the success of this day. Let us work with the guidelines of the Episcopal Church of Sudan. To those who did not succeed, I would like to tell you that this does not mean that we don’t need you. We need your support in the church and I believe God will reward you handsomely”, said the new Bishop.

The elected Bishop will undergo the two requisite stages which include consecration and enthronement at a date to be scheduled.

Despite leaving Gurtong, Deng has been a regular contributor as he has a keen nose for information about South Sudan.

Gurtong congratulates Deng on his new appoinment as the peoples' shepherd and wishes him all the best.
